Palmetto Turf Characteristics & Info
PALMETTO ® Stenotaphrum secundatum ‘ SS100’
Shade Tolerance
Palmetto Buffalo Grass performs well in full sun, yet thrives in shaded areas where other grasses fail. A Palmetto Buffalo Lawn requires 2 to 4 hours of direct sunlight. No grass can survive in extreme shade, but Palmetto is better than others. Palmetto has the best winter active growth so it is less likely to drop out in shaded areas in winter. Winter is when most shaded lawn areas fail.
Drought Resistant
A Palmetto Buffalo Lawn has a massive deep root system, making it more drought resistant. Palmetto Buffalo Grass is the efficient water user. Palmetto stays greener longer in dry conditions, making it the most likely lawn of all to stay green all year round. (Winter green, Summer green).
Why is Palmetto Buffalo Grass So Popular?
People want a lawn that they can simply mow, water much less, fertilise once or twice a year, and above all look great almost all the time. Straight after mowing Palmetto generally looks great, as it is unusual for it to scalp and show brown areas. Palmetto provides a great looking lawn with minimal fuss.
